Xiao Theatre's "Fish. Cat" is adapted from the short stories "Fish" and "Drowning an Old Cat" by literary writer Huang Chunming. It is written and directed by Zhong Boyuan, and deaf actors and theater actors are invited to perform together. A grandparent and grandchild from a poor family conflict over a squashed fish. The fish symbolizes self-esteem, hope, and family affection. On the other hand, the old man fights to protect the water source of his hometown. Although the little people in Huang Chunming's works are helpless in the face of fate, they always show simple resilience. No matter how hard it is, people still have a beautiful desire for life. There is love in conflict, laughter in tears, and hope must be held even if you struggle.
The stage design presents the two plays with two different focal lengths. Fish depicts the intimate relationship between grandparents and grandchildren through an extremely focused window, while Cat extracts the story of the protagonist Ashengbo from countless small worlds and the many people being watched.
